In the morning we packed up our camping equipment for the last time and headed south along the mountains through the rain to get head toward Boise. The drive through the mountains was nice, but the road that we drove had some of the steepest grades I’ve ever seen on a mountains road (upwards of 10% in some spots). The drive took us through a few valleys and smaller mountain ranges before making it into the Snake River Plateau and flat farmlands. On our way to Boise we got a call from Tyler Grant, who told us that we could stay with his family friends Steve and Dottie Bledsoe. We arrived at their house around 5:30 and met their daughters Arlie (9), Millie (5), and Nora (3). After a great dinner, we all went outside in the backyard and played with a big rainbow parachute. After lifting it up and running under it, lifting up some of the girls on the parachute and running around in circles, I ended up pulling some combination of all or some of the three around the backyard like a sled dog.
In the morning we ate breakfast and headed out to Eugene in the rain. The drive took us through eastern Oregon, which is essentially 300 miles of rolling hills and sage brush on a road with a 55 mph speed limit. The scenery changed significantly when once we arrived in Bend, where we got to look at the Cascade Mountains and the pine trees of the Willamette National Forest for the last two hours of our drive into Eugene. Once in Eugene we hung out with Pete and Melinda, ate dinner, watched the Giants game and chatted for a while before heading to bed.
